These regulations summarise the academic standards that govern study at SDA NMTC, Kwadaso. They are applied together with the curricula and examination rules of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, the Ministry of Health and, for degree programmes, the affiliated university.
Every student must register for each semester within the stipulated period. Late registration may attract sanctions.
A minimum of 80% attendance in each course is required to qualify to write the end-of-semester examination.
Attendance at clinical placements is compulsory. Missed clinical hours must be made up before progression.
Assessment combines continuous assessment — quizzes, assignments, mid-semester examinations and clinical assessments — with end-of-semester examinations, weighted in accordance with the approved curriculum.
The typical weighting is 40% continuous assessment and 60% end-of-semester examination. The pass mark for each course is 50%.
A student must pass all courses in a level in order to progress to the next level. Progression decisions are taken by the Examinations Committee and ratified by the Academic Board.
A student who fails a course may be permitted to sit a resit examination in accordance with the approved examination regulations. Resits are scheduled at defined points in the calendar and may attract a fee.
Persistent failure beyond the permitted limits may lead to repetition of the year or withdrawal from the programme. Affected students are counselled before any final decision is taken.
Examination malpractice, plagiarism and falsification of records are serious offences attracting sanctions up to and including dismissal. Cases are handled through the Disciplinary Committee with a right of appeal.
Students must observe the College dress code and maintain a professional appearance at all times, particularly in clinical settings where they represent both the College and the profession.
Conduct in clinical facilities must conform to the ethical code of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. Patient safety, dignity and confidentiality are paramount and breaches are treated with the utmost seriousness.
